Dear
families in Christ,
I often
gladly honor things that benefit me, but hesitate to honor things that
correct me. Maybe the Pharisees didn't see any benefit in honoring
Jesus Christ. There are good things in me, but many things need to be
given up. Please pray for us for we are worth as much as our
willingness to change for Christ's sake.
With
love,

Jung SAID
TO
SERVANTS,
"DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU."
Tana is the mother of
Rebecca,
who attends our preschool. They live across the street from us. It all
started when she shared her testimony of God's deliverance from drugs
and alcohol. Ironically, Helen and I had sudden run-ins (as you can
read below) with people with alcohol and substance abuse problem asking
for prayers and help (directly and indirectly). When we asked her to
take a lead in helping people with such problems in Zola, she said, "I
have experiences and Holy Spirit, so I am ready." She will start
visitations with us from this Friday onwards and decide what would be
the best way to help people in townships. Please pray for His guidance.
I
DRINK
TO
FORGET MY PROBLEMS
Two
weeks ago, Helen visited three houses before the children's church
service started. Out of them, one mama asked for prayers for she drinks
too much, another mama had the smell of
alcoholic
beverage in her breath. The last one she visited didn't seem to have a
problem with drinking, but we heard that her husband is a drinker and
beats her whenever he is drunk. When we were dropping off children
after the Gordon's Bay Church presentation last Sunday, a mama
approached us and asked when we will be coming back. She wanted us to
pray over her for her drinking problem. We asked to come on Friday, and
we would pray for her.
JUSTIN SIMONS, THE
ACCUSED
A few days after
Christmas,
someone stole the metal gate that I had taken out from our preschool. I
didn't even realize it until a neighbor, Edwin, told me that he caught
a guy with my gate. Six month later, I received a subpoena as a
witness. As a missionary, the last thing I wanted to do was to testify
against the people I came to serve. Also, he knows where I live, ha ha.
With a prayerful heart to see what God had in mind, I appeared at the
court room 9am sharp. There were many cases being handled that day and
as you gussed it, my case was the last one. It was past 4pm and there
we were, the accused, Justin Simons, his father, two guys who caught
him, and myself alone in the court room. Justin was a fairly young
coloured guy. When we were waiting outside to wait our turns to
testify, Justin's father came our and started yelling in Afrikaans.
When he calmed down a bit, I asked him, "How old is your son?" He said,
"He is only 18. It's drugs. He doesn't listen to me or his mother. The
drugs make him do stupid stuff." When his son came out, he yelled, "It
would be the last time."
TONY
Tony is Wendy's son. He is 8
years old and he also wants to be a policeman. He is a close friend of
Thulani. One day Wendy told us that she wanted to leave early. She just
received the monthly scholarship from us and wanted to get Tony a new
pair of black shoes right away. School had chased Tony away, because he
was not wearing black shoes. He didn't want to go back to school and
had been missing school for three days. Black shoes... Black shoes...
